An illegal alien from Mexico was fatally shot Tuesday after he allegedly tried to run over an ICE agent with his vehicle during an enforcement operation, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). <\/p>\n

But you wouldn\u2019t necessarily glean that if you read some of the headlines from members of the propaganda press. <\/p>\n

The incident unfolded Tuesday morning when ICE agents \u201cattempted to conduct a vehicle stop as part of a targeted enforcement operation to arrest an illegal alien. The driver of the vehicle, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo \u2014 an illegal alien from Mexico \u2014 attempted to evade arrest,\u201d according to DHS. DHS said it received information that Araujo \u201crammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle, refused to follow multiple verbal commands, and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense.\u201d<\/p>\n

If that account is accurate, then the shooting occurred only<\/em> after Araujo\u2019 allegedly attempted \u2018s alleged attempt to use his vehicle to kill or seriously injure a federal officer.<\/p>\n

CNN\u2019s Dalia Faheid and Chris Boyette nevertheless headlined their piece: \u201cFor 35 years, a Mexican father built homes in Houston. Then a morning drive ended in tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead of leading with the details DHS says led to the shooting, Faheid and Boyette begin their story emphasizing Araujo\u2019s family and profession. The third paragraph then states: \u201cAn Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in an unmarked car fatally shot the Mexican man inside his van, Salgado Araujo\u2019s oldest son recounted Wednesday.\u201d <\/p>\n

Notably, the son was not present during the incident, making his account secondhand. CNN did not tell readers that Araujo allegedly tried to run the officer over, instead simply saying that Araujo \u201cattempted to evade arrest as agents tried to conduct a traffic stop as part of a \u2018targeted operation.\u2019 He rammed into a law enforcement vehicle and refused to follow several verbal commands before an ICE agent fired his weapon in self-defense, the agency told CNN in a statement Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n

ABC News posted an article written by Armando Garcia on X: \u201cImmigration and Customs Enforcement officers shot and killed a Mexican national during an incident in Houston on Tuesday, the agency said.\u201d<\/p>\n

The article itself is even more skewed than the post on X, however, as its headline begins with a quote from Araujo\u2019s son that \u201che did not deserve to die.\u201d Garcia avoided the central allegation that precipitated the shooting \u2014 that is, Araujo allegedly trying to run the officer over \u2014 in the article\u2019s opening paragraphs. By the third paragraph readers are only told that \u201cAraujo is allegedly undocumented and didn\u2019t follow verbal commands, according to ICE. This is the second ICE-involved shooting in less than a week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Only in the fifth paragraph does ABC News inform readers that DHS says Araujo allegedly attempted to run over an ICE officer with his vehicle. But a reader who never made it that far could easily conclude that the fatal shooting stemmed from an illegal alien simply ignoring \u201cverbal commands.\u201d<\/p>\n

Houston Public Media\u2019s Kyle McClenagan and Bianca Seward chose a headline that was similarly misleading: \u201cICE agent fatally shoots man in Houston during \u2018targeted enforcement operation.\u2019\u201d Click2Houston\u2018s \u201caward-winning\u201d journalist Brittany Taylor omitted the allegation almost entirely. In a story headlined \u201c\u2018A hardworking Mexican man\u2019: Son of man killed by ICE in Houston demands investigation,\u201d Taylor fails to include any of DHS\u2019s allegations about what led to the fatal shooting.<\/p>\n

The New York Times\u2019 Edgar Sandoval similarly misled readers in his headline: \u201cICE Officer Kills a Mexican Man in Houston.\u201d He noted in his subhead that Araujo allegedly tried to run over the officer, but indicated there is no evidence to support such a claim.<\/p>\n

The allegation that Araujo used his car as a deadly weapon prior to being fatally shot is central to the entire story \u2014 yet the propaganda press sidestepped or obfuscated it.<\/p>\n
